“Imagine losing everything…..”

That is the header for a website at www.nixonfirerelief.com

You see, my cousins are the Nixons and they have just lost everything in a fire that destroyed their entire home and everything they own.

I have been thinking about what it must be like to lose everything.

It would be horribly sad, especially if you’re a child. As an adult, I consider most of my things to be “replaceable”. Even though I love a lot of things in my home, and it would be terrible if they were destroyed in a fire, my life wouldn’t be over if they were gone. Things like the t.v., the laptop, my clothes, my books, the furniture…these are the things that make up most of my possessions. If these things were lost in a fire, it would suck, but I would get over it.

There are however, several things that would make me quite sad if they were lost. Things like jewelry that has significance - like jewelry from my family, alive and passed on. Other things like photographs and albums would also be sorely missed. But then again, I post a lot of my pictures on-line so hopefully they’re relatively safe ;)

But I remember as a child, thinking about what it would be like to lose my things, and back then, it worried me so much that I was near tears. I loved my stuffed animals. All of them. They all seemed real to me with real feelings. And the thought of them being lost, or stolen, or in a fire made me really sad. I think too, when you’re a kid, your “things” just mean more to you for some reason.

So, my heart goes out to my cousins for the loss of their home and all of their worldly possessions, but mostly, my heart goes out to the 2 kids, because I’m sure they’re feeling the most upset, confused and heartbroken than the adults. I’m sure the adults are upset and worried in their own right wondering how they will rebuild their lives and provide for their children, but it’s the heart-hurt that the kids must feel which is the most painful.

How would your life be if you lost your home and everything in it to a fire? Would you be OK? What would you miss the most?

Do you see this???

It's called a flusher. You use it to make the toilet nice and clean for the next person.

Sometimes, you have to hoooold it a little bit to make sure everything goes down.

Use it so i don't vomit when i need to use the bathroom.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you.

SORRY Michelle

i'm going to "reply" to someone's comment on a comment that i left on another person's blog. I would like to post a comment right back on the blog, but that's not fair to the blogger.

I know this person who left a comment probably won't see this, but like i said, i don't want to start an argument on someone else's blog.

So here's the situation: You can read the original post here, but basically she wrote about how she found a small child left alone and locked inside a minivan on a hot day and how she confronted the parent.

To which i commented:

"oooo….that sort of thing makes me SO. MAD.!. argh. I’m mad just sitting here reading about it.I would have had a LOT more to say to that woman. Like “are you f#*%&^! kidding me???!!”But that’s just me…the kind of person who gives people dirty looks (and occasionally says something) when they park in a handicap spot when they are CLEARLY not handicapped!"

Anyway, i like to check the comments often to see what other people think and i find THIS:

"I just want to make a quick comment to Roz. Not all handicaps are visible and you shouldn’t assume that they don’t need to park there. As long as they have a sticker - assume they have it for a reason. That’s all."

"That's all" ???

Michelle, you don't know me. I don't know you. I'M SORRY that i didn't spell out every. single. word. and every. single. possible. situation.

First of all Michelle, i know aaalllllll about people with handicaps that aren't visible, i don't need a lecture from you about how not all handicaps are visible. My grandmother-in-law is legally blind and doesn't have a white cane, but does have a handicap sticker for her car thankyouverymuch.

Second of all, i was trying to express myself, don't take things so literally...sheesh.

Third of all, OBVIOUSLY if i saw a handicap sticker in someone's window, i would assume that they have it for a reason, and i wouldn't give them a dirty look. I kinda thought that was "assumed".

Lastly, i would like to say, that even when people do have stickers, it's not always for them, but for someone in their family who is disabled (am i even allowed to use that term? Probably not...) who isn't with them, but they figure since they have the sticker, that they can still use the spot.

Believe me. It happens. Yes....it does. I've witnessed it.

And the worst thing about these people is that they should be the FIRST ones not to use a handicap spot if they don't need to.

Let me ask you dear readers...who among you are tired of being so PC in every situation? Who is tired of wondering what someone might think of you as a person because you used an "incorrect term"? Does every comment or conversation or observation have to be 100% politically correct?

Shit!

It's probably one of the worst things that can happen to you.

Especially if you’re at work (!)

Oh man, the signs were there….the floor was wet, there was some T.P on the floor, but I really. had. to. go.

So I ignored the signs, and I went.

Big mistake.

BAD mistake.

The toilet overflowed!

Apparently the toilet was still angry from being plugged up before, and it overflowed again when I flushed it.

I stood there starring at it in disbelief and shock.

What was I going to do?

*blink*

*blink*

I turned off the light and opened the door slightly to see if anyone was in the hall...

All clear.

I left, and closed the door quietly behind me.

That’s what I was going to do.

What's it worth to ya?

Can you really put a price on feeling great?

Yesterday I went to get my hair cut and highlighted. It was expensive (ok, very expensive), but i feel it was well worth the hard-earned money spent.

First of all, it's time taken for yourself. You are the only one who matters at that time. You make all of the decisions (how short, layered, fun, crazy, plain you want things).

Everyone is looking after you and waiting on you. People ask you what kind of magazines you might like to read, others ask if they can grab you a tea, coffee, water, juice or biscotti. My colourist even asked me if i had eaten lunch and if she could run out and get something for me (??) to which i turned to her with a quizical, yet flattered look on my face and told her no, thanks. I couldn't in good conscience send someone (other than Mat hehe) out to get me lunch while i sat reading a pile of magazines. Well, not now anyway, maybe when i'm rich and famous (or maybe the next time i'm at the salon now that i know they do that sort of thing).

Then, the best part happens. It feels....wonderful...better than wonderful...it's bliss. It's when all of the playing of your hair and touching of your head takes place. Guys, if you're reading this, you won't understand, but every woman knows that when someone plays with your hair, it feels GOOD. So, i spent 20 minutes looking at myself in the mirror while my artist of a hair stylist combs, cuts, tossles, and scrunches my hair. Wow, starting to feel pretty good at this point.

Then, i move over to the colourist's chair for another 45 minutes while she also brushes, combs and paints highlights onto my hair. At this point, i don't look so hot with all of the tightly wrapped foil packages sitting on my head, but i feel good, and i feel even better knowing i'm going to be even prettier than i was an hour ago.

THEN comes the BEST part. and i mean THE BEST PART. At the salon i frequent, they are all about "the experience". So, when it's time to rinse and wash your hair, they give you a scalp and neck massage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, folks - a scalp and neck massage. You EVEN get to pick out the essential oil you want them to use. I usually go for lavender because the smell is so great. On occasion i choose peppermint because it makes my head feel all *tingly*. Ahhhh......I digress...

So, the massage. This same colourist - who must be sent from heaven - has never washed my hair before, although she has highlighted my hair once before. She. Is. Amazing. She spent extra time washing my hair and scrubbing my head (i started to think maybe it was just really really dirty). It felt sooooooo good having her disolove all of my stress in the shampoo and water. She kept going and going, all the more hitting the "right" spots. My temples, the top of my head, my neck, back to my temples. Honestly, it lasted about 10 minutes. And that was just the shampoo. That wasn't even when they're supposed to give the scalp massage.

By this point, i'm almost alseep. There was no way i was opening my eyes anytime soon.

When she finished washing my hair, it was time to rinse my hair. She did it all over again, but slower. It felt good. She took her time to make sure she went over my temples many times, and she always used the perfect amount of pressure. She even ran her finger nails over my head, which, sounds gross but feels awesome.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. S o r e l a x e d.

I was very close to sleeping by now, and when I got up and moved over to the chair for my blow dry, my eyes looked all watery like i HAD been sleeping. i swear i didn't fall asleep...

So, another 15 minutes of someone other than myself brushing my hair, and rubbing product in it, and styling it. Man, I felt like a million bucks. No, better. I felt like ME on my best day. (And hey, i came out looking pretty good too).

Now, what is THAT feeling worth to you?
